Wellstone!
Published on September 03, 2008 at 3:21am
It's been nearly six years since the plane crash that killed Paul Wellstone and, the passage of time being what it is, his old Senate seat (which he was about to contest for a third term back in 2002) is up for grabs again. Wellstone! traces the man's life and career, from his college days in North Carolina, through his years as a Carleton College professor, then his frequently pugnacious career as Minnesota senator. This production stars the show's playwright, Mark Rosenwinkel, a heavy hitter both when wielding the pen and when treading the boards. Composer and lyricist Larry Long also pitches in as the show's troubadour. Whether history will remember Wellstone as a quixotic oddity or a sign of times to come, Wellstone! does justice to his memory.
