The Temp

The Temp made its debut ten years ago at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, fleshed out with songs by Todd Price following its genesis as a two-minute sketch by Brian Kelly. Kelly's been busy the past six years performing in Triple Espresso, and now that that comedy's run its course, he's resurrecting his Office Space meets Oklahoma musical at the Music Box. Set in a dreary office, it's the story of a cowboy gunslinger who sweeps into a temp job and sets things right, winning the heart of the top saleswoman along the way. Trouble brews, though, when the worker the Temp replaced comes back in search of revenge. The cast includes Kelly as the Temp, along with Carolyn Pool, Michael Harrigan Ritchie, and other poor, trapped office dwellers. The original was a hit, tapping into audiences' love of old-time musicals and contemporary workplace drudgery. Neither has changed much in the decade between then and now.
