Twin Cities Pond and Landscape Tour

I have to admit, whenever landscaping comes up at a party, I completely zone out. I just can't be enthusiastic about tree placement and sprinkler systems. Of course, that doesn't mean that a well-maintained garden can't dazzle those cursed with the most gnarly or uninterested of green thumbs; the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the World, after all. The gardens featured at this year's Twin Cities Pond and Landscape Tour should be impressive as well. The free, self-guided tours will contain backyards filled with wandering streams, waterfalls, and swimmable ponds, as well as non-water related amenities like outdoor kitchens, putting greens, and multi-level decks. Those who like to sit outside on their lawn in the evenings should check out the special nightscape tours for ideas with lighting. Though free, donations are encouraged; all proceeds benefit the Children's Cancer Research Fund and the Minnesota Water Garden Society. The tours are held over two weekends: The first features homes in the northern half of the city, the second, homes in the southern half.
