Bastille Day

Bastille Day is a holiday that may fall under the category of mildly dubious. Though the French stormed the Bastille along the winds of political change, the events on July 14, 1789, didn't really free that many prisoners (only seven, and the king had already decided to close the facility). Regardless, the holiday is important for what it symbolizes, rather than what it actually accomplished. Once again, Barbette celebrates Bastille Day (Fête de la Fédération if you're French) with an outdoor street fest. This zero-waste event will feature organic eats and recycled/composted waste, with some proceeds benefiting the Fringe Festival. Local artists will be selling wares, Minnesota Rollergirls will be causing a ruckus, and live music will feature the Sensational Joint Chiefs, Romantica, Black Blondie, Faux Jean, Foxy Tan, and more. A hula-hoop contest, BMX and skateboarding shows, and aerialist Jim Domenick will round out the celebration. Those looking to keep the party going after the festival can check out the after party featuring Romantica and Kaiser Cartel for $10 at 10 p.m. at Bryant-Lake Bowl.
