The E Family

This may appear to be a Sesame Street alphabet exercise, but should actually be an education in rhythm from the Escovedos, the renowned clan of master percussionists. Patriarch Pete Escovedo and his late brother Coke conjured up the Latin rhythms in the early days of Carlos Santana's band, later founded the Latin big band Azteca, and subsequently played with a vast array of musicians ranging from jazz, to salsa, to pop, and rock. Pete's son, Juan, has followed in his father's footsteps as a versatile artist as well as a writer. Daughter Sheila has had the highest profile in the pop realm, entering Prince's orbit in the early '80s, subsequently touring often with him as a member of his band. Adopting the moniker Sheila E. and Prince's glam trappings, she released a series of successful albums in the 1980s and '90s, often with Prince producing, writing, and playing on selected tracks. Pete, Juan, Sheila, and their band should spark a scorching blaze of rhythms that are anything but child's play. $55 at 7 p.m.; $40 at 9:30 p.m.
