Observed in 26 states around the country, Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. This Saturday, Minnesota celebrates not only the end of slavery, but also the rich history, arts, and culture in the Twin Cities' African American community. The day kicks off with a free breakfast at 7 a.m., and is packed with events until evening. The parade, grand marshaled by Robyne Robinson, ends in Theodore Wirth Park around 11 a.m. where the all-day festival begins. Activities include dramatic re-enactments of historical moments, storytelling, health information and screenings, ribs and fish, arts and crafts, children's activities, dance performances, and live music. The festival continues at the Target Center; buses will be provided for those interested in attending the Lynx vs. Houston Game.
