Tig Notaro

Tig Notaro thought she wanted to be in the music business, so much so that she left her home in Texas and headed to L.A. She increasingly found herself hanging out in comedy clubs, though, and eventually decided to take the stage herself. "I really enjoyed it," she says of the music business. "But when I finally started doing standup, nothing that I ever did before made any sense." While she still enjoys making music, she has no desire to fold songs into her act. "I have started a band with a bunch of other comedians," she notes. "It's a real casual situation." Another talent she has been trying to develop is the ability to do sound effects. "I wouldn't call it a talent," she cautions. "Actually, Sarah Silverman loves these three noises that I make, and during one of her shows, she asked me to come on stage, without any warning, and do them. I did it to kind of appease her and it got a good reaction so I wrote a bit around it." Should Michael Winslow be worried? "I hope he is. I would love for him to hear my impressions and get worried. That would be amazing."
