MOSAIC Opening Night Celebration

Taking a look at the three-month schedule for Minneapolis MOSAIC boggles the mind. Filled with dozens of gallery shows, dance performances, theater, and live music, it's a quite impressive feat, and it's amazing that one city can host such a range of cultural diversity, talent, and skill. This Saturday is an opportunity to see many of these artists in one location. Aptly titled "Many Worlds. One Night," MOSAIC kicks off in community-loving, street-party fashion in downtown Minneapolis. This free celebration includes over 40 live music performances, featuring the New Congress. Dance and performance ranges from hula dance, cabaret, Middle Eastern dance by Jawaahir Dance Co., ballet, kabuki by Green T Productions, and tap dance, to name only a few. Food is provided by the diverse vendors from Midtown Global Market, and children's activities and art exhibits will be scattered throughout the street. Screening at the State Theater will be In the Garden, a film commissioned by MOSAIC, produced by John Gwinn with youth for Phillips Community Television. The documentary follows Minnesotans of all age groups and ethnicities as they live life in the Twin Cities. Though the festival takes place for one night only, MOSAIC-related activities will be launching throughout the summer, and you should check the website for a full schedule of events.
