Red Hot Art Festival

Between MOSAIC, Art-a-Whirl, and various Twin Cities gallery crawls, there are plenty of artistic events for your enjoyment this summer. One event worth heading outside and slathering on the sunscreen for is the Red Hot Art Festival in Stevens Square Park. It's two days chockful of more than 80 local artists displaying their works and nearly 30 musical acts playing on two stages. The variety and scope of the art and music at the festival make it a sure bet for any art lover. Artists and media range from the classy, including fine pottery by Brandon Hanna, to the kitschy, such as gaudy posters created by Beck Derobertis that demand the return of New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss to the Vikings. The stages will be similarly diverse and showcase the range of local sound, featuring rock bands Red Daughters and Gay Witch Abortion, along with folk act A Paper Cup Band, and hip-hop artist DJ Verb X. The free event begins with an opening reception/sneak peek Friday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
