Midtown Global Market Second Birthday

When Midtown Global Market opened its doors two years ago, there was concern that it wouldn't make it. Would Minnesotans want to sample the tasty treats offered from the locally global vendors? Would the market feel of the place lead visitors to assume that the place worked on a cash-only system? Though there have been some store shifts and reshuffles, Midtown seems to be thriving for the most part. And yes, you can charge that tabouli salad and Japanese gum on your Visa. This weekend the market will celebrate reaching the (not so) terrible twos, kicking off with free cake, balloon artists, a piñata, and kid-friendly music. On Saturday, Mayor R.T. Rybak will launch a parade of flags, followed by cooking demonstrations, live music, and dance performances. While you're at it, try some obscure candy at United Noodles, a margarita at Salsa a la Salsa, or pick up a tapestry for your wall at Tibet Arts & Gifts. What isn't there to love about global goods in big one location?
