The Art of Adam Turman

You might not know who Adam Turman is, but you probably recognize his work. His print art can be seen on a variety of items, from rock posters around town, coasters sold at Craftstravaganza, calendars (choose from naughty pinups or Minnesota locations), and of course in numerous magazines and papers, several City Pages covers included. Many know him for his pin-up girls, '40s throwbacks who range from wholesome ladies serving pie to rowdy, beer-swilling chicks missing teeth from hockey brawls. And even if you don't go to rock shows or craft sales, you've probably seen his cityscapes, which include the Gold Medal Flour Mill, the Uptown Theatre, the Grain Belt Beer sign, and even streetcar images from the '50s. This Friday, during Art-a-Whirl, Turman kicks off a month-long show, featuring favorite prints and most likely some original paintings as well. Opening reception 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, May 16.
