Zenon's 25th Anniversary Spring Program
Published on April 16, 2008
The local modern and jazz repertory company continues to celebrate its 25th year with a spring concert featuring a host of new and favorite works plus the final performance of founding company member Christine Maginnis. New York is represented well by Jeanine Durning and Seán Curran, each responsible for works highlighting the troupe's women and men, respectively; as is Argentina, with Susana Tambutti's saucy, sensual dances that have inspired Zenon audiences for several years. "Like an Octopus," in particular, weaves drama, tango, and contemporary movement into a potent kinetic tonic. The program is rounded out by the always smart and subtle Wynn Fricke's "Garden" and Cathy Young's spunky jazz romp "The Secret Life of Walt and Kitty." To be sure, all of Zenon's talented crew deserve a hearty round of applause, but this is a special opportunity to honor Maginnis, a dancer who has shown an astonishing versatility, athleticism, wit, and passion over the years. A standing ovation and many bouquets of roses are in order.
