Esperando La Carroza
Esperando La Carroza marks Mixed Blood's 10th year of staging English-Spanish bilingual productions, and this adaptation by Jerry Ruiz of Uruguayan playwright Jacobo Langsner's work looks particularly intriguing. It's the story of a Latino-American family in Chicago, an elderly mother and her three married sons: one well-off, one middle-class, and one poor. Mama Cora is a drain on her trio of daughters-in-law, and when she vanishes and is falsely thought to be dead, the clan's greed and hypocrisy emerge in a biting satire of class and culture. The show is done in English and Spanish, with supertitles helping out English speakers for public performances (in addition, the show will be presented to 5,000 Spanish-speaking students from across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin).
