School of Public Health/MN Public Health Association: Annual Film Festival

By Jessica Armbruster

Published on April 09, 2008

Forget sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll—how about sex, health care drugs, and oil? Those are the three subjects of the fourth annual U of M School of Public Health Film Festival. Monday, April 7 kicks off with a screening of A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash, a film that explores America's fixation with oil, and how our dependency affects the global environment, as well as our health. Student-created public service announcements will also screen this night. The next night will feature *°Salud!, a documentary that ponders how Cuba, a nation stricken with poverty, manages to have an excellent health care system. Two segments of the PBS documentary Unnatural Causes will screen Wednesday, April 9, focusing on the disparity between race and health care availability in the U.S. Are all of these screening topics bringing you down? You can cheer up and laugh at how far we've come (or not) on Friday, April 11, when the festival closes with a collection of vintage sex-ed films. For more info and a complete schedule visit www.sph.umn.edu/filmfestevents.
