Beneath the Surface
For all our dreams of import, our grand loves, and our gnawing frustrations, there's no getting around the fact that we are also, to quote a Star Trek: The Next Generation alien, "bags of mostly water." In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre have clued in to this fact in their latest show, which features live performance, music, and video in a family-friendly idea space that explores the concept of water in daily human life. It's a provocative concept for a show, particularly if you've ever tried to explain to a little one the origins of the H2O that flows from the kitchen tap ("uh, well, you see, it all starts in the sky. Then it has something to do with the mountains. And then, I guess, it ends up with the water bill. Now go outside and play").
