Cold Blooded, Warm Hearted

By Jessica Armbruster

Can cynics be passionate about things outside of snark? Judging from the new group show, "Cold Blooded, Warm Hearted," the answer is a loud and emphatic yes. Images in works by five print artists spin topics such as politics (both past and present), the environment, gender, and consumerism with an ironic smirk, biting wit, and joy of art in one layered sandwich. In Christa Dalien's Girlfight, two women fight for a boombox amid a confetti of party carnage strewn about the floor. Mark Hosford, an artist inspired by personal childhood experiences, lends a dark air to his art in Bringing, showing a boy and a girl touching hands, a black cloud filled with arms hanging over them. Other artists include Bill Fick, Michael Krueger, and Jenny Schmid. Though the humor is cold, the opening party shouldn't be: electronic/circuit bending duo Beatrix*Jar will perform. Opening reception 7–10 p.m. Thursday, February 14.
