Can art be useful? Can practicality be art? This, of course, is a timeless conundrum frequently asked by scholars, students, and artists alike. Lowery Stokes Sims, a visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota's Department of Art, explores this issue from her knowledgeable perspective. A former curator of modern art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and former executive director of the Studio Museum in Harlem, Sims also served on the jury for the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition. Tonight Sims explores the yin and yang of functionality and aesthetic.
