Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre: Sol y Luna

Over the past 24 years Susana di Palma has transformed the way local dance audiences experience flamenco by blending tradition with innovation. Some shows are dedicated solely to the complex rhythmic relationship between musician and dancer, while others are defined by full-length dance-theater works addressing social justice issues. This weekend di Palma shares the stage with longtime friend Domingo Ortega, born and raised in Jerez, Spain. He will perform Seguiriyas, a serious jondo dance, as well as Alegrias, an energetic showcase for the flashing footwork and passion-fueled virtuosity so often associated with the form. Together Ortega, di Palma, and other Zorongo members will give the stage floor a workout during a flamenco jam session fueled by the unrivaled Gypsy guitarist and singer Pedro Cortes. You'll find no more authentic a flamenco experience short of boarding a plane to Andalucia.
