Zenon's 25th Anniversary Fall Program

For a quarter-century Zenon has set the national standard for repertory dance companies. Over the years, founder and director Linda Z. Andrews has attracted some of the top jazz and modern choreographers both locally and nationally to create works for a troupe that consistently features the most resourceful and often gutsiest movers in town. This weekend's gala silver anniversary concert offers up some of Zenon's classic works including Bebe Miller's fiercely feminine "Sanctuary" set to music from both The Gospel at Colonus and Marianne Faithfull as well as Wynn Fricke's Kodo-drum-driven "Blessing of the Earth" and Colleen Thomas's heart-rending stunner "Catching Her Tears (44° N, 93° W)"—all pieces that dramatically showcase the company's athleticism and emotional depth. Two new works round out the evening: The Midwestern premiere of the ever-inventive Doug Varone's "Of the Earth Far Below" set to Steve Reich's Triple Quartet, and a new jazz knockout from Danny Buraczeski.
