Between the Worlds

By Quinton Skinner

The Interact Center's Jeanne Calvit and Adelaide, Australia's Tutti Ensemble's Pat Rix met at a festival nine years ago; artistic directors of their respective companies, the two have kept tabs on one another's work ever since. It's been a natural fit, with both focusing on productions incorporating disabled performers with a goal of storytelling, insight, and wicked wit. Between the Worlds was a hit at the Awakenings Festival in Victoria, Australia, two years ago, and here's a chance for Twin Cities audiences to see the fruit of this collaboration between Calvit's direction and Rix's ambitious musical compositions. The story is a skewed Romeo and Juliet, a romance between a proudly disabled woman and a man with a subtle disability who passes for "normal." A live band and a cast of 45 will tackle a show that promises to be illuminating and mind-expanding, in the best possible sense.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 24. Continues through Dec. 21, 2007
