Urinetown: The Musical

Every time I've trekked down I-35 to the Bloomington Civic Theatre, I've been glad I made the trip. I'm not sure how John Command pulls off his particular alchemical hybrid of community theater with big-stage ambitions, but the shows he directs are always possessed of precise enthusiasm, a solid ear, and a fun sense of affinity for whatever happens to be onstage that evening. Now BCT is staging the pissy pleasures of Urinetown, the Tony-winning musical comedy about life after a water shortage, obsolete private toilets, and a rebellion following corporate control of public facilities. Written before public discussion of the "wide stance," it carries resonance nonetheless.
