Agnes of God

Agnes of God first arrived in regional theaters in the early 1980s, and its story of a nun who kills her baby and the detective story that follows concerning the child's conception has, with the passage of time, begun to take on the tint of a period piece. Here, director Mary Finnerty sets the action a quarter of a century in the past, but with a knowledge of everything that has come to pass since then—the breakdown of old religiosity, church scandals, and the necessity of Catholic adherents to adjust their understanding of the interplay between the material and the divine. The cast of Colleen Hennen, Alayne Hopkins, and Linda Kelsey promises a sharp and insightful take on a work that is due for a new look.
