Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company

By Linda Shapiro

Published on October 24, 2007

East and West practically dance a jig in Lily Cai's "Silk Cascade," inspired by the action paintings of Jackson Pollock. The traditional Chinese ribbon dance travels on wildly divergent paths as movements of dancers and ribbons merge with live video images creating paintings that streak, loop, layer, and glide. Pollock may have been flummoxed by all of these interactive goings-on (not to mention Chairman Mao), but media-savvy kids of all ages should love it. This Planet Ordway Asian fusion experience kicks off with a free World Party at 6:00 p.m., featuring food vendors, art-making activities, and performances by local Chinese dance troupes.
