Frankenstein Incarnate

Frankenstein has always been a dark-horse candidate for best horror novel ever (as well as the originator of the medical thriller genre). Mary Shelley, under cover of precise and controlled prose, lays out a story of reproduction, science, and generalized fear and loathing at least a century ahead of its time (which might not have fully arrived, come to think of it). Theatre Unbound moves into the performance space at the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center in St. Paul for this production, written by Anne Bertram, which intertwines Shelley's life with the story she created. It's no exaggeration to call her the creator of one of the most profound and subterranean myths of modernity (and there would have been no Munsters without her, a lesser but undeniably distinctive achievement).
