It was just a matter of time before someone pulled together a book on two favorite October American pastimes: ghosts and baseball. As one of the more superstitious, curse-laden sports out there, baseball lends itself well to a book on hauntings and eerie events. The stories in Haunted Baseball are largely based on the experiences of ballplayers and employees at parks, training facilities, hotels, and other baseball-centric sites. The book fills in the blanks on many of the curses and legends that surround the all-American sport. For example, at the Renaissance Vinoy in St. Petersburg, Florida, the visiting team hotel for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Devil Ray pitcher Jon Switzer and his wife saw artwork hanging above their bed come to life, and Pittsburgh Pirates strength and pitching coordinator Frank Velasquez saw an apparition of a man in his room. Primarily for fans of the sport, Haunted Baseball is three parts baseball history, one part spooky stories.
