City Pages Iron Fork

Second Harvest Heartland does good work. The largest hunger-relief program in the Upper Midwest, the group will this year collect and deliver more than 34 million pounds of food to 950 of their nonprofit agencies, including soup kitchens, homeless shelters, seniors' and children's programs, and more. Even more impressive: For every dollar donated to the program, over $9 worth of groceries go out to the community. There are many ways to support the program, including volunteering time, resources, and money, as well as purchasing power (Galactic Pizza, for example, donates $1 for every Heartland pizza they sell). This Thursday the City Pages Iron Fork will be raising funds to fight hunger as well (ticket proceeds go toward the organization). Last year's inaugural event sold out early in the evening; this year it's moving to a bigger venue so that more people can sample the best of the Twin Cities food at this tasty showcase, including hot spots such as Marla's Indian and Caribbean Cuisine, Salsa a la Salsa, Holy Land Deli, Sea Salt, and more. The highlight of the evening features an Iron Chef-style competition where judges (including Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl) will determine the tastiest dishes constructed amongst the chaos.
