Al Sicherman

For those who have read the Star Tribune faithfully over the years, Al Sicherman is known for his columns on food, trivia, and humor, especially "Uncle Al"'s tales about the confused hilarity of growing rickety and old. In a collection of the recently retired writer's columns, Uncle Al's Geezer Salad, he reminds us of the humorous wink life constantly gives us, recounting tales of hitting his two cars twice in one day (hitting each car once with the other car), the horrors of misinformation on the web (apparently German chocolate cake is actually German's chocolate cake—the recipe originated not from Germany, but from German's Sweet Chocolate), and the inner dialogue people secretly maintain with their pets. Sicherman's playfully self-deprecating tone makes Geezer a charming read, much like your favorite, kind uncle.
